Brief Information About SCIS

The School of Computing and Information Science (SCIS) is one of the new Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Departments that were  established,  on 1st January 2022, as a result of the review and restructuring process that took place between 2015 -2018.  This was after realizing that Kyambogo University that was established in 2003 under statutory instrument No. 37 of 2003, had experienced  high levels of student enrollment, expansion in academic programs, and had attained some reasonale infrastructural and technological development.

Fragmentation of some functions across the university, limited capacity to embrace ICT in service delivery as well as construction of new lecture theaters, laboratories/workshops necessitated a review and a restructuring of the university organizational structure in order to address the challenges and be able to effectively and efficiently fulfil its core mandate of offering quality teaching and learning, carrying out research and publication as well as engaging in community outreach activities.

The review and restructuring process saw a relocation of the Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Science to the new School of Computing and Information Science. The unit of Library and Information Science within the Department of  Languages – Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, was relocated as a full-fledged Department  of Library and Information Science within the new School of Computing and Information Science.

To strengthen the School of Computing and Information Science and to embrace the new emerging trends in computing, especially, in the areas of Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Digital forensics and Cybersceurity, a new Department of Data Science, Networks and Artificial Intelligence was also established within the new Schoolof Computing and Inormation Science.
